Meet Candace Dempsey, author of the major book on the Amanda Knox case, the University of Washington student convicted of killing her British roommate in Italy. Did Amanda help kill Meredith Kercher in an idyllic hilltop town? Or could she be innocent?

FRIDAY, MAY 14, 2010, FREE, with Italian pastries

7 PM – 8 PM, Powell’s Bookstore, 3415 SW Cedar Hills Blvd., Beaverton

MURDER IN ITALY is a true crime story, a real-life Italian murder mystery, a courtroom drama and an Italian travel book. It has a cast of characters and plot that John Grisham couldn’t invent. Two beautiful young women dream of studying in Italy and, once there, share a charming cottage overlooking the famous Umbrian hills. Meredith Kercher is stabbed to death one day after Halloween. Amanda Knox becomes the prime suspect. The controversial prosecutor accuses Amanda, her wealthy Italian boyfriend, and a drifter of conspiring to commit the crime, citing motives ranging from satanic rituals to jealousy and theft.
